Step 1: Your Initial Consultation

Once you schedule an appointment with us, you’ll receive a comprehensive evaluation where Dr. Peter Riordan will examine your teeth, discuss what you’d like to achieve, and take digital scans or impressions.

Using advanced 3D imaging, you get a preview of your future smile and create a personalized treatment roadmap tailored to your needs.

Step 2: Getting Your Custom Aligners

Based on your unique treatment plan, your clear aligners are precision-manufactured using advanced SmartTrack® material, where each tray is numbered and designed to gradually move your teeth toward their ideal position.

You’ll receive your complete set of aligners so you can see the full journey ahead.

Step 3: Daily Wear & Progress Checks

Wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day, taking them out only when you eat, drink anything other than water, or brush your teeth, and every week or two you’ll switch to your next set of trays.

You’ll also have regular appointments at RDC Dental (typically every 6-8 weeks) so we can monitor your progress and make any needed adjustments.

How long does Invisalign® treatment take?

Treatment time varies based on complexity:

Does Invisalign® hurt?

You may feel pressure or mild discomfort for a few days when starting a new set of aligners. This is normal and means your treatment is working! The discomfort is generally much less than with traditional braces.

Will Invisalign® affect my speech?

Most patients experience a slight lisp for the first few days as they adjust to wearing aligners. This typically disappears within a week as your tongue adapts.

Can I eat and drink with my aligners in?

You should remove your aligners when eating or drinking anything except cool water. Hot beverages can warp the plastic, and colored drinks can stain your aligners. Always brush your teeth before putting aligners back in.

What if I lose an aligner?

Contact our office immediately. Depending on where you are in your treatment, we may have you move to the next set, go back to the previous set, or order a replacement. This is why we recommend keeping your previous set of aligners as a backup.

How do I clean my Invisalign® aligners?

Rinse aligners every time you remove them)
Brush them gently with a soft toothbrush and clear, antibacterial soap
Soak in Invisalign cleaning crystals or denture cleaner weekly
Never use hot water (it can warp the plastic)
Don't use toothpaste (it's too abrasive and can scratch aligners)

Will my teeth stay straight after Invisalign®?

Yes – if you wear your retainers as directed! After completing treatment, you’ll receive Vivera® retainers to maintain your results. Most patients wear retainers full-time for a few months, then just at night indefinitely.

Does insurance cover Invisalign®?

Most dental insurance plans that include orthodontic coverage will cover Invisalign the same way they cover braces – typically 50% up to a maximum benefit. We’ll verify your coverage and maximize your benefits.

What happens if I need dental work during Invisalign® treatment?

Most routine dental work (cleanings, fillings, etc.) can be done while you’re in treatment. Simply remove your aligners for the appointment. For more complex procedures, we’ll coordinate with your dentist to ensure your treatment stays on track.

Can I switch from braces to Invisalign®?
